How do you do Charity?

(Mat 6:1 NIV)  “Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

When we are being responsive to Jesus in sharing his love with others we need to be sure to evaluate our motives.  In this passage from Matthew, Jesus challenged those who make a big show of their contributions and charity but had no love in their heart.  As I post stories of service on this blog, it is not “to be seen by others”, I have an entirely different motive.  I want to encourage others to get involved.  The writer of Hebrews said (Heb 10:24 NIV)  “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.”   In a sense I feel like the apostle Paul who said (1 Cor 11:1 NIV)  “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.”

I have a number of friends in our church who are about the work of the Lord.  When something needs to be done they just get it done.  They keep a low profile.  I want to encourage all of you who minister in Jesus name.  If He calls you to encourage others to get involved then maybe you may be a little more visible as I have been with this blog.  However rest assured that God is aware of all that is happening in His name. We only seek to glorify His name.  (Mat 5:16 KJV)  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Jesus is first and foremost in my life. He is above all religions, principalities and powers. In everything He must increase and I must decrease. Into the hands of Jesus, God has placed life and death, truth and purity. strength and meaning. Only in a growing understanding of the triune God, and his son Jesus can I do, breathe, exist and serve. I have a Bachelor's degree in Bible from Vennard College, a Master's in Social Science from Azusa Pacific University and a Ph. D. from Ohio State in Family Relations and Human Development. I am an ordained pastor involved in cross-cultural ministry. I am currently employed at several colleges as an instructor.
