David Ran to meet the Philistine!

David felt an urging of God to stand up to the braggart Goliath.  The Bible says he asked those around him who is going to speak up against this one who defies the living God.  God will lead you to serve Him with an urging from His Spirit to your spirit to get involved in ministering in this world.

When David got ready to go against Goliath, King Saul tried to load him down with armor, sword and spears.  David said, “This is not what I need, I believe the same God who helped me in the sheep fields, to fend off wild animals can help me against the Philistine”.   Then the Bible says David ran out against the giant.  When God calls us into service we may become loaded down with worries, burdens, disclaimers, “what if’s”, doubts and heavy useless stuff.   What we need is to shake off all these things that beset us and move out to do God’s will.

When David moved out for God he experienced blessing, saw God use him, enjoyed the excitement of doing God’s work and walked in the footsteps of the Lord.   I want to invite you who are reading this to consider the ministry God has placed before you.   Perhaps like David you can run out into God’s work.

About johnmcmurphy

Jesus is first and foremost in my life. He is above all religions, principalities and powers. In everything He must increase and I must decrease. Into the hands of Jesus, God has placed life and death, truth and purity. strength and meaning. Only in a growing understanding of the triune God, and his son Jesus can I do, breathe, exist and serve. I have a Bachelor's degree in Bible from Vennard College, a Master's in Social Science from Azusa Pacific University and a Ph. D. from Ohio State in Family Relations and Human Development. I am an ordained pastor involved in cross-cultural ministry. I am currently employed at several colleges as an instructor. If you need to get in touch with me, just leave a comment, I screen all comments and so you can leave further contact information which I will erase before it is published. -John
