Cup of Water
Deborah (3 years old) had a bad night. She had not been able to keep any food down and could not sleep.
I was already in Charlotte when I received a call from the family via a translator. They said she was listless and they were worried about her. You see, when Deborah was just a baby she had gotten so sick her eyes had rolled back and her hands had cramped up in convulsions.
I called my wife, Kay and she stepped up to help this family, they spent the whole day at the doctor’s office. Really as the day went by there was not much that could be done for Deborah besides monitoring her and seeing if she could keep any liquids down. By late afternoon Deborah had a sip of Gatorade, sat up and began playing again, the family was able to go home by 7:00 PM. I thought about what Kay did, all the things she had planned for the day but put aside and I couldn’t help but think of the words of Jesus (Mark 9:41 NIV) I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward. Sometimes all God asks of us is to be there as a friend. Kay I commend you, you were doing the Lord’s work on Monday!
