Take Up the Cross Discipleship

Yesterday, our English speaking Burmese Bible study group was looking at the last verses of Mark Chapter 8.  I had titled the study “Take Up the Cross Discipleship”.  I struggled with communicating the thoughts in the scripture but we were able to look at these words of Jesus:  (Mark 8:34 NIV)   “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”

Later as several of these Burmese joined me in the American worship service, what song should be the theme, but “Take up the Cross and Follow Jesus”.  The song is still going through my head today and it helped to seal the lesson in the hearts of each of us.

This is a picture of myself with some the Burmese guys between Sunday school and church.  Please ignore the name tags, we switched a couple of them as a joke.    Their names are (l-r) Thah Haung, Ba Su Gay, Aungn Mo and Bye Bye.  Also the guy who takes all these pictures for me is named Eh Htoo, he is pictured below. He has been here over a year.  He rides his bicycle four miles to our chuch on Sunday morning.  He works at the Splish Splash Car Wash on South Main St.  We just heard his family of origin will be coming to America in a couple of months.

  1. It makes me smile when I see the pictures Eh Htoo has taken. He does a good job. Sounds like yesterday’s service was good for the ones who speak English.
