Welcome Pa Doh Family
Two weeks ago the Pa Doh [Paw Doe] family arrived in America. Last Sunday they joined us for church. You may have seen them at our church picnic on Sunday afternoon. When Savy Hser Mu “Savee” and I went to visit them last Saturday, we discovered that Ther Gay Pah (the wife) and Soek Maw Doh (son) speak good English. They live on Ridgecrest Street behind our church. Welcome to America Pa Doh family.
In the Burmese culture, individuals have only one name, so often we will organize a family group around the name of the head of the household (HOH). Sometimes the care-giving agencies assign a last name from one of the syllables of the refugees’ name.
