This past Sunday, Pastor Rick Kavanaugh, visited the Lao congregation and gave them a greeting on behalf of the whole congregation.  His short greeting centered around the truth of Christ’s incarnation, death and resurrection.  He challenged the folks to consider whether Jesus is Lord instead of as some suppose a lunatic or a liar.

Pastor Rick shared his greeting through three interpreters.  Pastor Inthava translated English to Lao/Thai, Philip Saw translated fromThai to Karen, and Nyein translated English to Burmese.    The Outreach class has announced a Golf Tournament Fundraiser to purchase Language Interpretation Equipment for the Lao congregation.   The Golf outing will be on September 27.

When the Lao congregation has the equipment it will allow a speaker to talk and be simultaneously translated (by interpreters) into different languages.  Initially we will have the capability of translating in 3 languages.   The equipment involves three broadcasting units with microphones, about 40 dedicated FM receivers and earbuds to plug into the receivers.  The translators would sit in the back and translate while the preacher is speaking.  People, wearing earbuds, will be able to hear the message in real time.  The equipment is portable so at times it could be used in our main sanctuary for combined services.

About johnmcmurphy

Jesus is first and foremost in my life. He is above all religions, principalities and powers. In everything He must increase and I must decrease. Into the hands of Jesus, God has placed life and death, truth and purity. strength and meaning. Only in a growing understanding of the triune God, and his son Jesus can I do, breathe, exist and serve. I have a Bachelor's degree in Bible from Vennard College, a Master's in Social Science from Azusa Pacific University and a Ph. D. from Ohio State in Family Relations and Human Development. I am an ordained pastor involved in cross-cultural ministry. I am currently employed at several colleges as an instructor.
