The other day I was helping a Burmese friend of mine to jump start his car. From time to time a worn car battery will just not want to crank the engine. We found the carburetor was flooded and soon had the ailing car functioning again.
I was thinking of this as a metaphor for the work our church does to jump start a people that have found their lives stalled through no fault of their own. When we come along side and give them a little encouragement they can start down the road of a new life. Our Burmese friends have had to flee their homeland, live in a state of limbo and now are seeking to rebuild their lives. By just doing little things we can help them get started.
