We had a Great Sunday- Melody

biak-and-his-wife-dawt-other-burmese-class-photos-003The children are learning so fast! We have about 30 children on Sunday morning in the Burmese Sunday School class, led by Biak Cin Thang.

After a hearty breakfast of Asian lime cakes that Bibi and I found at the Asian Market (corner of Kivett and Scientific); grapes (courtesy of Joe Stallings); apples and bananas, and Kool-aid, we started our class. Lily, Frosintina and Bibi led the children in learning a new Christmas song to sing for the Laos congregation during the Christmas season and memorizing John 3:16.
esl-112908-008Just like in any class, it’s easy for the children’s voices to blend in and the teacher not know whether or not everyone is really learning, so Lily asked the children to stand up in groups of 3 or 4 and recite the verse together. This produced lots of giggles and a little embarrassment, but they did really well!
During the 2nd part of the morning, we played games (cup stacking races and basketball). Then each child made a a decorative doorhanger with their Bible verse and a very special wooden nativity with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.
esl-112908-003On a spur of the moment, Carolyn Winslow and I sang “Away in a Manger” for the children and promised to teach them the song next week! A special thank-you to Noi Inthisane and Ed and Carolyn Winslow who helped out this Sunday.

Jesus is first and foremost in my life. He is above all religions, principalities and powers. In everything He must increase and I must decrease. Into the hands of Jesus, God has placed life and death, truth and purity. strength and meaning. Only in a growing understanding of the triune God, and his son Jesus can I do, breathe, exist and serve. I have a Bachelor's degree in Bible from Vennard College, a Master's in Social Science from Azusa Pacific University and a Ph. D. from Ohio State in Family Relations and Human Development. I am an ordained pastor involved in cross-cultural ministry. I am currently employed at several colleges as an instructor.
