News Updates from High Point
Some of the local jobs that our Burmese hired in before Christmas have dried up. About 10 of our Burmese arrivals have hired on with a chicken packing plant near Rockingham. They are paying a good starting wage but it is an hour and twenty minutes away. Some have moved and some are planning to commute. Pray for their safety, spiritual growth and good decision making.
The First Wesleyan Church Missions weekend is coming up on March 6, 7, 8 , 2009. We will be starting two gardens for a couple of our Burmese families on that Saturday. The Sunday worship service will be combined with the Lao/Burmese using the new translation equipment. An interview with a Burmese family will be featured.
We have had several new arrivals to our Burmese community. Watch the blog for more information. Also persons of interest to several of our families are being processed for relocation to America.
The team of people helping with our Burmese ESL project on Sunday morning are a real blessing. Led by Kay McMurphy; Marcia Jobe, Betsy Grier, Marie Shull, Gary and Kaye Millls. It is exciting to see how motivated the Burmese students are to learn English and the progress they are making.
