Silver Bills

Every person on earth has been racking up some pretty big bills.  I’m not talking about financial debt.  I am talking about how we come up short on good behavior.  Not just once but over and over.   Add to the list the times we have thought badly about others or even wished them ill will and the debt is greater yet.  It amounts to a pretty high amount that is due.  In fact it is overwhelming.

Now when we get a high financial debt we begin to be pestered by bill collectors, some will come to repossess cars or foreclose on homes.  It gets to be a big problem.  When we mess up our lives it begins to get us down, sometimes we just lose hope, other times we get in trouble with the law or we get caught in addictive behavior.

But there is some good news, I know how you can get this bill to be paid in full, not just pennies on the dollar but paid off.   Our lives which we have messed up, can be untangled we can be free of the debt we owe for bad behavior and thoughts.   It has to do with why Jesus came to earth as a baby.

Silver in the Bible refers to redemption.  When you spend silver coins you can pay off debt.   When Jesus was at the end of his 33 years on earth he was betrayed for 30 pieces of silver.  But God used the life of Jesus to pay for all the bad behavior ever done or that would be done by people living on this earth.  Jesus came as a perfect baby to be offered as a perfect payment for bad behavior (sin).  He paid completely for you and me (see Romans 8:23).
