Jobs!

I talk a lot about jobs on this blog.  I need to mention something to my Burmese friends, since I know that a lot of you are regular visitors.

When you have a job, it is an American custom and a good job practice, to let your supervisor know if you are going to quit to take another job.   A full two weeks notice is the minimum length.   If you have a prolonged illness and must quit, also talk to your supervisor about having to quit.

There are several reasons why this is a good practice:

1.  Future employers will call your previous supervisors and see if you were a good worker and gave them proper notice of your leaving.

2.  Placement services and agencies need to keep a good relationship with the companies they serve.  Your lack of notice damages these relationships so that future Burmese arrivals cannot get jobs.

3.  You do not want to develop a reputation as being unreliable as an individual and/or as a people group.

So please talk to you supervisor before you plan to change jobs!!!

About johnmcmurphy

Jesus is first and foremost in my life. He is above all religions, principalities and powers. In everything He must increase and I must decrease. Into the hands of Jesus, God has placed life and death, truth and purity. strength and meaning. Only in a growing understanding of the triune God, and his son Jesus can I do, breathe, exist and serve. I have a Bachelor's degree in Bible from Vennard College, a Master's in Social Science from Azusa Pacific University and a Ph. D. from Ohio State in Family Relations and Human Development. I am an ordained pastor involved in cross-cultural ministry. I am currently employed at several colleges as an instructor. If you need to get in touch with me, just leave a comment, I screen all comments and so you can leave further contact information which I will erase before it is published. -John
