Christmas Adventure – Praise God from Whom all Blessings Flow!
We prayed the other day about housing for the Bawi family, hit a blind alley but today, God cut a wide swath as we started looking for another house. Steven and Rai are now the tenants of a house on Manley Street, 6 doors away from the Peng Len Thakbal family.
The afternoon began as I picked up Steven, did not know where to go, headed toward East Kivett and then stopped at some apartments. Saw they were managed by Atlantic Insurance and Realty and remembered they managed a house near the Thakbal’s. I called them and found the house leased for $400 a month. We got the key, looked through the house and Steven wanted it. So we went to the lease office and the lady at the counter said they couldn’t do a background check without a social security card. I asked here if there was anything they could do for a newly arriving refugee, she was shaking her head “no” but pointed to a man entering the door, at that moment, and said ask him. I shook hands with the owner, Tam Cridlebaugh and told him the situation. He told the lady to lease the house. We finalized the payment and contract. Next we went to the city office and had the power, water, sewer and trash turned on. Then we set down with an interpreter to go over the transactions in detail. Finally at the end of the afternoon we contacted Piedmont Natural Gas to turn on the heat. She wasn’t sure if we could get it on before the weekend but hurried through the preliminaries and set up a technician to turn it on tomorrow. Talk about trying to stay up with an awesome, Almighty God, what an adventure!
