Sitt Lin Heh
Sitt Lin Heh arrived in the United States two years ago. He lives in Portland, OR. He came to our country in response to a missions call to “go fishing” in America. Since he arrived in Oregon, he has tirelessly taught and preached to Karen and Chin congregations in the northwest. Twice a week he does specific “missionary work” with unsaved Burmese arrivals.
We pick up Sitt Lin’s story in a Thai Burma refugee camp in the year 2000. As a “twenty something” he was a nominal Christian in a provisioned and fenced camp where many of our Poh Ku Karen and Karenni Burmese awaited immigration papers. Sitt Lin finished secondary school and studied at a Bible college right there on the Thai/Burma border. During his Christian education he also focused on the study of English. The school he attended was called the Katali Karen Baptist Bible School and college (KKBBSC). Eventually he even taught younger students beginning Bible courses.
Eventually Sitt Lin pastored a congregation in a Thai town with a large Burmese population. Having grown up speaking S’quaw Karen, he could preach in that language but sought the Lord’s help as he needed to preach in Burmese as well. Later he traveled with a Baptist missionary throughout Thailand where he translated in Thai, Burmese, and Karen as needed.
Sitt Lin told me about reading of Peter and John with the crippled man. Peter said to the lame man, “Silver and gold have I none but such as I have, give I to you. In the name of Jesus Christ, rise and walk”. In that ministry of the Scripture he felt a healing touch of God for a back ache he was experiencing but more important, his faith was enlivened and he began a vital experiential relationship with Jesus that continues to this day.
After some heart searching about what the Lord would have him do, Sitt Lin was impressed by the Holy Spirit to continue his evangelistic ministry in America where there were “many fish to be caught” for the Lord. Today as a 35 year factory worker in Portland, Saw Sitt Lin Heh has an active ministry with youth, teaches a Sunday school class and conducts home visits. Join me in prayer for his ministry.
